Synopsis
이양선이 자주 출몰하기 시작한 변화의 시기, 1860-70년대 조선. 독일 상인인 에른스트 오페르트는 강화도에 와 정박과 문호개방을 요구한다. 강화도 옆 교동도의 한 마을, 윤슬은 호랑이 포수 아들인 최범과 손자 최연과 살고 있다. 윤슬과 손자 최연은 이러한 사건과 침략들을 경험하며 식민주의의 얼굴을 마주한다.
In the 1860s and 1870s, the time of change in which foreign ships began to appear frequently. The German merchant Ernst Oppert arrives on Ganghwa Island and demands an anchorage and the opening of the harbor. In a village on Gyodong Island, near Ganghwa Island, YOON Seul lives with his son CHOI Beom, a tiger hunter, and his grandson CHOI Yeon. Through these conflicts and invasions, they are confronted with the face of colonialism.
Project Concept
<정원과 정글>은 19세기 한국을 세계 식민주의와 그 영향이라는 더 넓은 맥락에서 살펴보고, 한국의 식민지 역사를 일본과의 관계만이 아닌 더 넓은 서사 안에서 재구성합니다. 그럼으로써 오리엔탈리즘이라는 담론 속에서 서양 중심적 사고 방식의 문제를 비판적으로 탐구할 기회를 제공합니다.
<Garden and Jungle> delves into 19th century Korea within the broader context of global colonialism and its impacts, reconstructing Korea’s colonial history not solely through its relationship with Japan, but as part of a wider historical narrative. In doing so, it offers a critical exploration of Western-centric modes of thought within the discourse of Orientalism.
Characters
윤슬 (목소리 연기: 정은순) - 허구인물. 강화도에 사는 할머니. 강화도에 오래 거주 하면서 강화도에서 일어난 사건들을 경험했다.
최연 (목소리 연기: 임호영 / 어린 최연: 정은순) - 허구인물. 윤슬의 손자. 동학운동에 참여하며 독립운동가로 거듭난다.
에른스트 오페르트 (목소리 연기: 현 워너) - 실존인물. 독일상인이자 한국학자. 조선과 무역을 하기 위해 정박과 문호개방을 요구했다.
도깨비 - 한국의 전통적인 민담에 등장하는 상상의 존재. 식민주의를 은유적으로 표현하기 위해 등장한다.

YOON Seul (Voice: JUNG Eunsoon) - Fictional character. An elderly woman living on Ganghwa Island. She has spent many years there, experiencing the events that unfolded on the island.
CHOI Yeon (Voice: IM Hoyoung / Young CHOI Yeon: JUNG Eunsoon) - Fictional character. YOON Seul ’s grandson. He joins the Donghak Peasant Revolution and later becomes an independence activist.
Ernst Oppert (Voice: Hyun Wanner) - Historical figure. A German merchant and Korea scholar. He demanded anchorage rights and the opening of Korea’s ports to facilitate trade with Joseon.
Dokkaebi - A traditional mythical being from Korean folklore. Appears as a metaphorical representation of colonialism.
